Storm Recovery Update: A Community That Stands Together

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 29, 2025, a severe storm passed through Peterson, bringing with it high winds that caused significant damage. Two power poles were broken, multiple power lines were downed, and several trees were toppled across streets—blocking access into and around our community. Despite the challenges, the recovery efforts began immediately after the storm passed. Power was restored within 20 hours, and within three days all roads were cleared, and all debris were moved. The quick recovery was made possible by the incredible response of our residents. In a true show of small-town resilience and heart, approximately 30 community members stepped up without being asked, organized themselves, and got to work. From clearing tree limbs and debris, to checking in on neighbors, to making sure streets were safe again, our volunteers knew what needed to be done and simply got started. Their actions were a testament to the kind of place Peterson is—a place where people help each other out without hesitation.

Where We Stand Now

The city continues collecting debris and will accept trees and brush through Friday morning. After that, residents are asked to bring remaining debris to the burn pit.

Looking Ahead: Let’s Talk

As part of our continued response and commitment to improvement, the city will be holding an open community meeting on Wednesday, August 13 at 5:00 p.m. (one hour before the regular council meeting). This will be a chance to: - Share feedback and experiences - Provide after-action input - Discuss any future plans for improving storm preparedness and response.

Thank You, Peterson

There’s something truly special about living in a small community like ours. In difficult moments, we don’t wait for help to arrive—we become the help. The past few days have shown just how strong, capable, and connected our town is. Thank you to everyone who lent a hand, checked on a neighbor, or simply offered words of support. Peterson is proud, resilient, and united—and it’s because of people like you.

With appreciation, Chris Grindland City Clerk City of Peterson
